Is The Church Really Divided?
2020. That year, a simple number, is enough to describe the foundation of where I’m wanting to jump off of in this article. We all know what that year was like. For some reason, it caused a disturbance that many believe the Church has become greatly divided because of it. Many are calling for unity. I’ve sat down with many Christians discussing the topic of division in the church and I’d like to explain why my answer went from a passive yes to a pretty solid no.
I do not believe the church is divided. I think we’ve made our focus the news and social media rather than the word of God. There is one church. Period. I believe the causing of this great “division” is because of 3 main categories: immature believers, prideful christians, or false converts.
- Immature Believers.
Romans 15:1 says, “We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.” New Christians, simply put, need to be lead by example and wisdom. They need to be pointed to the Great Counselor. They need to be pointed to He who is wisdom. We who are strong are commanded to support and correct them in their failings. They have just come out of the domain of darkness and into light. They have an entire history of living for themselves, Satan, and sin. Sanctification is a process (and if we’re honest, quite messy).
